How do I create a task?

Tap the "+ New task" button on the Today screen. Enter your task title, add an optional description, and tap "Create Task". Your task will automatically get a 6-hour deadline (or 16 hours if created between 9pm-4am).

Why can I only add 2 tasks?

Simplicity limits you to 2 tasks at a time to help you focus on what truly matters. This constraint forces you to prioritize and prevents the overwhelm that comes with endless todo lists. To add a new task, you must complete or let expire one of your existing tasks.

What happens when a task expires?

Tasks automatically expire 30 minutes after their deadline. Expired tasks move to your Archive under "Unfinished" where you can review them later or re-enable them to create a new instance with a fresh deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the deadline on a task?

No. Deadlines are automatically set and cannot be changed. This is intentional—it prevents procrastination and the "I'll do it later" mindset. If a task needs more time, let it expire and re-enable it from the Archive.

How do notifications work?

You'll receive notifications when tasks are approaching their deadline and when they enter the 30-minute buffer period before expiring. Make sure you've granted notification permissions in your device settings.

What do the analytics show?

The Summary tab shows your completion rate by day, week, or month. You can see how many tasks you've finished versus left unfinished, helping you understand your productivity patterns and set realistic goals.

Can I sync my tasks across devices?

Currently, Simplicity stores all data locally on your device. Cross-device sync is planned for a future update.

How do I re-enable an unfinished task?

Go to the Archive tab, find your task under "Unfinished", and tap the refresh icon. This creates a new instance of the task with a fresh deadline. The app tracks how many times you've reactivated a task.

What's the difference between the 6-hour and 16-hour deadline?

Tasks created during the day (4am-9pm) get a 6-hour deadline for immediate focus. Tasks created at night (9pm-4am) get a 16-hour deadline, allowing you to plan for the next day.

Troubleshooting

I'm not receiving notifications

Check the following:

Ensure you've granted notification permissions to Simplicity in your device settings
Check that Do Not Disturb mode is not enabled
Verify that notifications are enabled for the app in iOS/Android settings
Try restarting the app

My tasks aren't expiring automatically

The app checks for expired tasks when you open it and periodically in the background. Make sure:

Background app refresh is enabled for Simplicity
The app hasn't been force-closed
Your device has a stable internet connection

The app is crashing or freezing

Try these steps:

Close and reopen the app
Restart your device
Ensure you have the latest version of the app
If the problem persists, contact support

Privacy & Data

Where is my data stored?

All your task data is stored locally on your device using SQLite. We do not collect, store, or transmit your task information to any external servers.

Can I export my data?

Data export functionality is planned for a future update. Currently, all data remains on your device.

What data does Simplicity collect?

Simplicity collects minimal anonymous usage data to help improve the app (such as app crashes or performance metrics). We never collect the content of your tasks or personal information.
